How we operate
The Lafayette Sanitation Department is one of the leaders in municipal waste. Our objective is to provide efficient and safe collection of solid waste & recyclables, at no cost, from each household (four units or less) within city limits. Seven (7) routes are ran each week day, by two (2) man crews, to collect from over 20,000 households every week.
We use a 'one pass' collection system, in which refuse & recyclables are collected at the same time. Rest assured; however, that even though these items are being collected in one truck, each has its' own separate compartment to ensure that they do not get mixed!
The City of Lafayette has provided residents with a 96 gallon Toter garbage can for automated curbside waste. The Toters are emptied by means of a hydraulic arm mounted to the side of the sanitation truck. The toters provide the community with nicer, more efficient, and sanitary waste containers that assist in cleaner neighborhoods.
Households are encouraged to participate in the residential recycling program to reduce the amount of waste taken to the landfill. We will even provide you with FREE recycling bins!
The Lafayette Sanitation Department takes pride in being a positive part of the community and being able to physically touch all of Lafayette's households each and every week.
