Recycling

WHAT IS "RECYCLE NOW?"
Recycle Now! is a city-wide two-week campaign to increase curbside recycling in all Lafayette households.' The GOALS of Recycle Now! are:
- to increase the total Lafayette curbside recycling amounts by 2% compared to the same two-week period last summer.
- to educate Lafayette citizens that curbside recycling SAVES, it is EASY and it's FREE.
- to encourage each Lafayette household to either BEGIN curbside recycling or INCREASE their current curbside recycling.
A project of the Mayor's Youth Council, Recycle Now will run from June 28th through August 8th.
All Lafayette households serviced by the Lafayette Sanitation Department trucks will receive door hangers the week of the 28th. Households also are receiving a Recycle Now! information sheet in their City water bills.
Lafayette citizens may access curbside recycling information on this website or by phoning the Sanitation Department at 807-1411. The Sanitation Department is eager to answer your questions!
On Friday, August 8th, 200 Lafayette households will be recognized as CHAMPION RECYCLERS for their increased commitment to curbside recycling. The Champion Recyclers will also be recognized at a special City event in the fall.
WHY RECYCLE?
RECYCLING IS EASY! No need to sort - just toss recyclables in your blue bin!
RECYCLING IS FREE! Make a call to the Lafayette Sanitation Department (807-1411) or use the action center to receive your FREE bin (or bins) which are delivered FREE to your home!
RECYCLING SAVES! ENERGY, Natural RESOURCES, the ENVIRONMENT, and TAX DOLLARS! When recyclables are used to produce new products, existing natural resources are saved. When natural resources are conserved, the environment is stabilized. Local tax dollars have been saved by curbside recycling. Tipping fees, Lafayette's cost of dumping trash in landfills, already have been reduced 15% through the city's current curbside recycling!
At the July 24th press conference to kick off Recycle Now, the Mayor's Youth Council said,
A novelist, Jean Paul Richter, said, Do not wait for extraordinary circumstances to do good action; try to use ordinary situations. Taking advantage of an ordinary act, such as curbside recycling, can do so much for our community and environment....It is never too late to start improving your impact on the environment. There is no reason for you to wait for extraordinary situations to do something good. The ordinary act of curbside recycling can benefit our city by saving money and reducing waste sent to the landfills. Please help us in our campaign because our generation will have to live in the environment we are creating right now.
